Glue for ABS - Krick Paula Work Boat

Epoxy works on wood to wood, wood to fiberglass polyester, fiberglass polyester to fiberglass polyester, Metal to metal, wood to fiberglass polyester. Some plastics can present a problem. that is where CA or Acetone can come into play.
So, it depends what materials you are trying to glue together.
It can be confusing.
It can be daunting, especially when you have spent a lot of money and an incredible amount of time on a model and want it to be perfect, or at least for it to stay together.
I hope this is some help.

I use 2 part epoxies with a little baby powder as filler, ca glues if the joint is to be painted over (ca is water resistant but not water proof) and Stabilit Express when I can get it. I haven’t had a joint fail yet. However, I always roughen joints before bonding.

Acetone on a small paint brush run down a seam held tightly together, used to work on the old ABS Graupner kits, and the same thing you mentioned - mixed with ABS offcuts to make a putty. Probably the PVC gutter cement in a tube, would be good as well for sealing gaps, (basically what it is,- PVC dissolved in Acetone.) With hulls, you have to be careful not to get carried away with MEK or Acetone, as they can mar the smooth surface if they run.

Methyl ethyl ketone is found is abs and pvc cements. My question would one of these cements be better than the other ???? Would using a primer intended for these products be a good idea ?
I do have a future tug project consisting of a 2 part abs hull…

I use MEK with some ABS dissovled in it. It melts both parts and fuses them together. It has proven excellent with 3D parts.

Glue for ABS - Krick Paula Work Boat

I have been disassembling a Krick Dusseldorf fire boat including stripping the ABS hull down completely and pulling the deck off. I plan on extending the hull by 200mm by adding in a new section using styrene.
With all this I know what held tight and what did not.
Epoxies no. Super glue is too brittle.
My plans are to use a solvent cement which actually melts ("welds") the materials together. ABS cement is available in hardware stores (in the U.S is Home Depot). This even works on PVC pipe in many instances.
I also have success with hobby "weld" cement like Testors.

Glue for ABS - Krick Paula Work Boat

Glues depend on the surfaces to be glued.
I use Gorilla wood glue for wood to wood
CA for styrene to styrene and wood to styrene
Two part epoxies when needed
Two part finishing epoxy for sealing the hull inside and out.
