@luckyduck FYI It was obvious why the first of the STA Schooners got it name - the second was named after a Doctors son that was tragically killed in a motor accident that wanted to commemorate his son name and being a keen sail the Malcolm Miller came about bot had a distinguished career (again i had the privilege to sail in both many moons ago)

@luckyduck Both are still about having passed into private hands and used as Charter Ships - sadly now the UK has very few Sail Training ships to speak of, A couple that spring to mind are TS Pelican and TS Royalist. All the others have been sold off or are for sale such as Captain Scott (Sold to Oman became Shebab Oman - I was privileged to be a Watch Keeper on the delivery voyage from Buckie to Muscat). Other are Lord Nelson, Tenacious - not sure what has happened to Phoenix.
Never to my knowledge has the UK had a large Square Rigged Ship used for Sail training - did hear a buzz however that the MOD was on about chartering a sail training ship (most likely Pelican) and introducing sail training to trainee's at Dartmouth !
The sail training ships are are left in the UK are yacht type vessels that take less crew and expense to run - as a general rule I don't think there is the appetite for arduous youth training/character building like there used to bed.

Ionl, thank you, yes it would be lovely to see her latest incarnation, I presume then, that Malcolm Miller has gone? She was always the number 2, no idea why.

@luckyduck Yes she is still existing in Greece the Winston Churchill. The owners rent her for cruises. They made some modifications on the superstructure. If you like I can take some pictures .

I have had the pleasure of sailing in company with both the Sir Winston Churchill and its twin Malcolm Miller - beautiful boats that trained a lot of youngsters, sadly both now I believe scrapped, but would be good to know if one or both have been saved.

I think you mean SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL. This is a print I have on the wall in my basement

Billings Boat BB 706 Sir Winston Churchill

This kit has been listed on marketplace as a partially started build. Only the hull has been planked and the deck secured.

Has anyone built this kit?

The same person also began the Billings Cutty Sark which again he has built the hull and the deck is secured to the hull.

$65 for the Churchill and $110 the CuttySark fittings are included.

What say ye mates?
