What is this material?

Removed rudder post foam material and replaced with birch ply block. Added three bulkheads to give support to the super flexible hull and deck. The age of the boat (1996-build) showed fatigue, thus requiring some structural strengthening.

What is this material?

The typical application would be shaping the model in polyurethane foam and then cover it with several layers of polyester resin (the most common resin used with fiberglass to build hulls). Also surf boards used to be "shaped" by hand and layered as I mentioned.
So for bonding, any polyester resin, expoxi like glues (two components).

What adhesive can be used on it?

What is this material?

It looks like expanded polyurethane (rigid polyurethane foam). To be sure, you may try to sand it. if you obtain a grainy powder looking like sand, then it is for sure polyurethane.
This powder is very harmful to the lungs. So for sanding it use mask and googles.

What is this material?

My friend bought a damaged Marblehead sailboat. He is not sailing it in competition, only as a fun R/C sailboat. He wants me to put a thin birch ply deck on it and make the repairs needed on the rudder post area.

Does anyone recognize the material used for the deck? See the golden brown coloured photos. The boat originally had an iron shrink material used on aircraft models.

After I know the material, then I can determine the adhesive to use for attaching the birch ply deck.

Thanks!
