Radar with rotational drive

They are made from cheap Chinese railway figures. I'll start another thread with more info, since this one is meant to be about radar.....

Like the boat, but, where did you get the crew?

Radar with rotational drive

I certainly did! The FS6 is cheap but the 6 channels were perfect for me. I did adjust the setup max and min throws for channel A pot (in the Tx setup screens) just to give me finer control of max and min rpm and then just twisted pot A to the speed I needed all very simple and because the servo is still getting pwm signals from the Tx/Rx then it controls very well.

I don't know the FS6. Can you adjust the rotational speed of the servos using it?

Radar with rotational drive

Just another idea.
Recently completed r/c conversion of 1/72 Flower class (as HMCS Regina).
For my rotating radar I removed the gear 'stop' from a cheap servo making it continuous rotation(Ebay SG90 about £1.50 ea), joined the radar shaft with plastistrip tube to output gear inner of servo with CA glue and controlled it to the left pot on flysky FS6. As soon as RX is powered up the radar rotates and with the pot adjusted I achieved consistent rotational speed on the 271 radar. A cheap and cheerful way to provide scale rotation, with no added electronics and uses a spare channel on my RC! Hope it gives an idea

Radar with rotational drive

Here is a bit more detail on the OSA

1 - All EeZeBilts live in their made-to-measure Correx box
2 - This OSA box carries the R/C Transmitter as well as the radar and aerials on a separate tray
3 - A closer shot of the radar. You can see the brass extension which slips into the silicone tube under the mast. The brass tube at the top is a 2-size box spanner for attaching the radar and the rudder, with spare nuts.
4 - Under the superstructure, you can see the two different motors (bought just to try them out) with two different mountings. The electronics in the centre is a made-up R/C switch using the Luton circuit for turning the scanners on. You can see a string of diodes inside the purple heatshrink.
5 - Here is the superstructure assembled.
6 - A shot from above
7 - And one of the Bridge. The sailors are Indian Navy, since this is a model of the INS NIPAT, but at the moment she is wearing a North Korean flag...

Radar with rotational drive

The EeZeBilt OSA Missile boat is 1:48 scale (see http://eezebilt.tk/OSA.html ). It uses a couple of geared motors for its two radar scanners. They were sourced from ebay to have approximately the right revs - faster if anything. See:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3V-Model-Making-Multipurpose-Hand-Square-Micro-DC-Motor-Gear-Gear-DIY-Box/233174112136?hash=item364a429788:g:eC8AAOSwGDNckuvL

and

Each was then adjusted for speed using a voltage reducer. One is required to go at about twice the speed of the other:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-DC-DC-Adjustable-Step-Down-Buck-Voltage-Reducer-Stabilizer-Converter-Case/382762061618?hash=item591e658f32:g:1FwAAOSwLKhb9RNY

This measured ideal voltage was then fed to each one by dropping the boat master voltage through a separate series of diodes for each motor.

Both scanners can be separated for packing. The rear one slots direct onto the drive shaft. The front scanner is driven by a thin piano wire which pushes into a silicone tube connected to the drive motor when it is assembled.

Specifically, what do you want to know?

Radar with rotational drive

Has anyone got any experience in constructing radar with rotational drive. Scale about 1/50.
The rotation speed should be the same as the real thing.
Drive voltage 7.5 volts DC.
